CAD Development & Engineering Proof:

SolidWorks model and metric drawings showing globe sizing, wall mount, wiring exit, and mounting hole layout.

Key features:

  • Wall-mounted linear rod design with repeated globe modules
  • Clean, symmetric layout (3-globe version + optional 5-globe variant for costing)
  • Standard lighting-component integration (globe + fitter approach)
  • Mounting + wiring considerations built into the design
  • Finish-ready concept renders (brass + painted options)

The Challenge:

The client had a clear visual direction but only rough sketches and references. The goal was to translate the concept into a manufacturable wall-mounted lamp while keeping the design minimal, symmetrical, and easy to produce. Key unknowns included globe size, mounting approach, wiring exit, and how to assemble the globe/shade using realistic off-the-shelf lighting components.

Key constraints:

  • Must be manufacturable with realistic assembly and wiring routing
  • Keep geometry simple and repeatable for production
  • Match the client’s intended proportions while ensuring stability and wall-mount feasibility
  • Designed to accommodate supplier-selected socket variations with minimal changes

Outcome:

Delivered a complete SolidWorks CAD package including:

  • Fully editable 3D model (final configuration)
  • Metric 2D drawings suitable for manufacturer review
  • Photoreal renders for concept approval in multiple finish directions
  • Exported 3D files for visualization and supplier communication (STEP/STL)

What this project demonstrates:

  • Turning rough ideas into a production-ready CAD model
  • Strong sense of proportion + clean product surfacing
  • DFM thinking (assembly, wiring, mounting, standard parts)
  • Clear communication through drawings + renders for fast supplier feedback

Process & Key decisions:

    • Started from sketches + inspiration references to lock the overall proportions and “wall sculpture” feel.
    • Validated the design around standard lighting parts (globe size + fitter concept, E14 socket assumptions) to avoid impossible geometry.
    • Iterated through multiple mounting and rim/overlap solutions until the client preferred a cleaner “spaced” layout.
    • Added practical manufacturing details: wall mount plate, mounting holes, and wiring exit.
    • Produced manufacturer-friendly drawings in metric after final confirmation.
  • Have a product in mind? Let’s make it real.
